Toyota Alphard Executive Lounge (40 Series): What the Grade Actually Includes
Quick answer
Executive Lounge is the range-topping grade of the current (40-series, June 2023–present) Toyota Alphard. It seats six in a 2+2+2 layout built around two second-row "VIP" captain seats, and lists at roughly ¥8.5–8.72 million (tax included) for the standard hybrid. Since a January 2025 lineup update it has also been offered as a plug-in hybrid, alongside the original hybrid — it is no longer accurate to call it "hybrid-only" without qualifying which hybrid. It is not the same specification as the Executive Lounge grade on the previous (30-series) Alphard — see Important variations by generation before assuming a spec carries over.
What is the package?
Executive Lounge(エグゼクティブラウンジ)sits above the volume-selling Z and G grades in the current Alphard lineup. Where Z and G are configured as practical family/business people-movers (7-seat, with an 8-seat option added to the separate lower X grade in a later running change), Executive Lounge trades total seating capacity for a two-passenger-focused second row aimed at being driven, not just driving — the market positioning Toyota uses for VIP and chauffeur-service buyers.
This is manufacturer/package information, not editorial interpretation: Toyota's own naming and grade structure place Executive Lounge as the flagship trim, priced roughly ¥2.3–3.3 million above Z depending on configuration.
Which model years offered it?
Executive Lounge is not unique to the current car — Toyota has used the same grade name on the previous generation. This article covers the 40-series only:
- 40-series Alphard: sales began 21 June 2023 in Japan (world debut the same month). Executive Lounge has been part of the lineup since launch and remains available as of this writing.
The 30-series (2015–2023) also offered an Executive Lounge grade, added in a minor change around October 2018, plus a further Executive Lounge S variant — both discontinued when the 40-series replaced the 30-series in 2023. Do not assume 30-series Executive Lounge specifications apply to a 40-series car, or vice versa; they are different vehicles under the same grade name.
What does it include?
Confirmed standard features on the 40-series Executive Lounge (Japan-market), per Toyota's own product pages:
- Second-row VIP captain seats (2 seats, 6-seat total layout), premium nappa leather, with power long-slide, power ottoman (with an extending mechanism), power recline, seat heating and ventilation, and a "refresh seat" massage function
- Heating extended to the second-row armrest and ottoman, not just the seat cushion
- A removable, 5.5-inch touchscreen multi-operation panel controlling rear climate, audio, lighting, sunshade, and seat functions, plus a built-in table with vanity mirror; the panel sounds an alarm if removed and taken outside the vehicle
- JBL Premium Sound System — 15 speakers, 12-channel amplifier — standard on Executive Lounge. This is a genuine equipment differentiator: the same JBL system is a manufacturer option on Z, not standard (see the Z vs Executive Lounge comparison)
- 3-eye LED headlamps with auto-levelling, LED clearance lamps, and adaptive high-beam — standard, but not an Executive Lounge exclusive; Z gets the same lighting equipment
- Toyota's standard active-safety suite for the model (adaptive cruise, lane-keeping assist, pre-collision system), consistent across Alphard grades rather than exclusive to Executive Lounge
A note on precision: several of the equipment figures widely quoted for "Alphard Executive Lounge" online (9-inch center display, 3.5-litre V6 engine choice, 17-speaker JBL count) describe the previous 30-series car, not the current one — the current car's confirmed JBL count is 15 speakers, not 17. Where this article still cannot confirm a specific 40-series figure, it says so rather than repeating a 30-series number.
Package/grade comparison
A full side-by-side comparison against the Z grade — the volume-selling alternative — is covered separately: see Toyota Alphard Z vs Executive Lounge (40 Series). In brief: Z is available with a choice of gasoline or hybrid powertrain and seats 7; Executive Lounge seats 6, trading two seats for the captain-chair second row, and — since January 2025 — is offered as either a standard hybrid or a plug-in hybrid.

How to identify it
On a Japanese auction sheet or dealer listing, the grade is normally printed in the vehicle description alongside the model name — look for エグゼクティブラウンジ (Executive Lounge) written out, not abbreviated, since Toyota does not use a shorthand code for it the way some grades use letters. Confirm the generation independently (registration/first-registration date on the sheet — 2023 onward indicates 40-series) before relying on any spec sheet, since, as above, the same grade name spans two different cars with different equipment.
The 6-seat, 2-captain-chair second row is the fastest visual tell in photos: if the second row shows a bench or three-across seating, it is not Executive Lounge.
Important variations by generation
- Powertrain: 40-series Executive Lounge launched (June 2023) as a hybrid only in Japan. From January 2025, Toyota added a plug-in hybrid Executive Lounge alongside it (2.5L PHEV system, EV-only range approx. 73km) — so "Executive Lounge" alone no longer specifies the powertrain on this generation; check whether a given car is the hybrid or the plug-in hybrid. Overseas markets (e.g. Malaysia) separately offer a related but distinct 2.4-litre turbo Executive Lounge variant not sold in Japan at all — a different engine and chassis-code family.
- Trim naming: The 30-series lineup included both "Executive Lounge" and "Executive Lounge S." Toyota's own certified-used-car catalogue lists "Executive Lounge S" only for vehicles registered through June 2023 — the end of the 30-series — and does not list it for any 40-series (2023-onward) vehicle. Treat any listing describing a 2023+ car as "Executive Lounge S" as likely mislabeled and needing verification against the registration date and chassis code.
- Grade lineup changes: Toyota added a lower-cost X grade (with an 8-seat option) to the 40-series lineup in January 2025 — confirmed by the boundary date in Toyota's own certified-used-car catalogue, which separates "2023年6月~2025年1月" and "2025年1月~" vehicle listings. The same January 2025 update also introduced the plug-in hybrid powertrain and a separate, low-volume Spacious Lounge grade — a Toyota Auto Body coachbuilt 4-seat chauffeur conversion of Executive Lounge with roughly 420mm more second-row legroom, headrest speakers, and a rear refrigerator. Spacious Lounge is out of scope for this article; it is not a mainstream trim and is mentioned here only so it isn't mistaken for a simple Executive Lounge variant.
What buyers/importers should know
- Don't price a 40-series Executive Lounge off a 30-series spec sheet or vice versa — engine, display size, and audio specs differ between the two cars despite the identical grade name.
- If seating capacity matters for your use case, confirm it directly: Executive Lounge is 6-seat only on this generation; buyers wanting 7 or 8 seats need Z, G, or X.
- For a 2025-or-later car, confirm whether it's the hybrid or the plug-in hybrid Executive Lounge — the grade name alone doesn't distinguish them, and it affects both running costs and resale positioning.
- The E-Four (AWD) vs 2WD choice affects both fuel economy and resale positioning in the Japanese market; confirm which drivetrain a specific auction listing has, since the auction sheet's model/grade text does not always make this obvious without checking the chassis code suffix.

Sourcing method note: this platform's WebFetch tooling cannot load toyota.jp pages directly — every attempt, across two research sessions, returned HTTP 403 (site-level bot blocking, not a rate limit; confirmed by retrying after a quota reset). The facts newly added in this revision instead come from a search tool restricted to the toyota.jp domain, which returns indexed snippets of the real page content with the source URL attributed. This is a genuine step up from the fully-secondary sourcing in the original draft — the text originates from Toyota's own published pages — but it is still one step removed from reading the primary page directly, since the snippets are search-engine-selected excerpts rather than the complete document. Anything that couldn't be corroborated this way remains marked unconfirmed rather than filled in.
